Spring Is HERE!

The Flowers are in bloom, the grass is green, and the weather is warmer but not too hot, yes Spring is in the air and what a better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than with scones. I been into making scones lately and been saving alot of scones recipe on my pinterest. There are alot of different kinds of scone out there but I decide to go with a more refreshing taste  in the citrus category for a breakfast or brunch Item. Theses Orange scones are heavenly and delicious, tender and full of Orange flavor from pure freshly squeeze navel oranges and the orange zest, its a good wake up call in the morning with a side of butter, or sweet cream, even marmalades and jams. I had my orange scone this morning with some homemade lemon and Orange marmalade( Mary if your reading this your home made Lemon and Orange Marmalade was delicious) that I had and it was Orange heaven to me, with my morning cup of Coffee, cause quite honestly I can not function without my morning cup of joe haha.

With an Cream cheese Orange Glaze, its a good balance to the sweetness of the scones, not overly sweet but just right for the breakfast or for brunch. This is how you start your spring morning, with a good cup of fresh brewed coffee, Orange Scones and you are ready to take on the spring day.

 

Orange Scones

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 14 minutes

Total Time: 24 minutes

Yield: 6 Large Scones

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 Cups of Flour
  • 4 Tablespoons of Baking powder
  • 1/4 Cups of White sugar
  • Zest of 2 Oranges divided
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 5 Tablespoons of Unsalted butter cold, cut into cubes
  • 1/2 Cups of Freshly squeeze Orange juice
  • 1/4 Cup of Buttermilk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Tablespoons of milk
  • Orange Glaze
  • 2 ounces of Cream Cheese, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
  • 2-3 Tablespoons of Orange juice
  • Orange zest

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven to 400 degrees
  2. Line a baking sheet with Parchment Paper. In bowl mix to combine flour, baking powder, sugar, salt and Orange zest.Add the cube unsalted butter using and incorporate the butter to the flour mixture till it looks like course pea-like size crumbs either with a pastry cutter or using 2 knifes. Stir in the Orange juice and buttermilk and mix just until its combine. Drop biscuits leaving and inch in between and press them slightly, mix egg and milk together in a bowl and brush the top of the scones, let the scones rest for ten minutes. Bake for 12-14 minutes depending on size or until tops are golden brown, cool to room temperature before glazing.For the Orange Glaze, combine all the ingredients together in bowl, glaze the orange scones to your desire.

    Yay! I’m so glad you enjoyed the marmalade. I’m eyeing berries for my next batch.
