I love Scones~I really do~the thing is, I don’t get many opportunities to have scones and its really quite sad because they are so delicious. After months of trying out and creating my own scones and failing miserably,  I finally created a recipe that works and on top of that adds some of my favorite spice that I just love to put everything on if I could~you already know that~Cinnamon~DUHHH!!! and yes I just duhhh you  lol.

Ohh Scones I have been patiently waiting for you to come in to my breakfast table~and finally here you are~Tender~Crunchy top~every bit as delicious as the scones I have tasted before but my very own~just believe me when I say that I have tried to create scones before and they didn’t turn out well as I hope they would until now~took me months to find the right consistency, the right amount of ingredients~I even remembered one scone recipe I created was so crunchy on the outside but the inside of the scone was doughy and wet and uncook eeeeekkkkk lol. I am very glad that this scone came out the way I wanted it and intended. As you can see I also created a little glaze or sweet gravy as you can see above that compliments the cinnamon crunch scones, my vanilla cinnamon gravy sauce as I call it or you can call it glaze~I like gravy because its going on a recipe for a sweet biscuits that’s a sweet take on Biscuits and gravy hahaha ( Recipe coming Soon)

Cinnamon Crunch Scones Dough

The One thing I learned from making scones is that~keep all your ingredients cold, flour your work surface and do not over work your dough~I have to thank all the food bloggers for that piece of advice because its really true~not just to scone but to any dough~when cutting the butter to the flour~I use my hands because hands are better than a stand mixer but you can certainly use the stand mixer to incorporate the butter to the flour~make sure the flour mixture looks course pea crumbs.

Don’t go sparingly on the cinnamon/sugar topping~Go nuts~the more you put on top the more crunchy it is and that’s good eats hahaha~and hey  everyone loves cinnamon sugar right? I mean that’s the filling for cinnamon rolls don’t forget to brush the tops with heavy cream~Now that I know how to properly make scones I am very excited to be making some variations with this recipe like chocolate chip scones~yummy right? RIGHT? but that’s for another blog entry so stay tuned, more scones is coming your way. Enjoy.


Cinnamon Crunch Scones

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Yield: 8 Scones


  • 1 1/4 Cup all purpose flour
  • 1 Cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/3 Cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 Eggs, beaten slightly
  • 1 1/2 Stick of unsalted butter, diced, cold(12 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 Cup cold heavy cream
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon Crunch topping
  • 1/4 Cup heavy cream
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon cinnamon
  • Vanilla Cinnamon Gravy
  • 3/4 Cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 Cup heavy cream
  • 1/2-1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon


  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Line 2 baking sheets with silpat or parchment paper. In a bowl whisk together flours, baking powder, salt and sugar. using your fingers cut the dice cold butter into the flour till they resemble pea size crumbs. In another mix together beaten eggs, heavy cream and vanilla extract and add to the flour mixture, mixing with a wooden spoon till a sticky dough forms. Turn dough in to a well floured surface and sprinkle flour on top of the dough, flatten to a round disk, about 1 inch thick and cut disk to 8 pieces. in a bowl mix together 6 tablespoons of sugar and 1 Teaspoon of cinnamon. Brush tops of scones with heavy cream, sprinkle cinnamon topping on top. Place scone on baking sheet inches apart from each other and bake for 10-12 minutes till golden brown and tops are cracked. baking sheet on cooling rack and let scones cool on the baking pan for 3-4 minutes, remove scones from pan and let cool on the cooling rack to cool completely or serve warm with vanilla cinnamon gravy. Enjoy. serve with side of coffee.
  3. Vanilla cinnamon gravy
  4. in a bowl mix together powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract and cinnamon till the powdered sugar has dissolve, spread over cinnamon crunch scones as desired.
